GENERAL TIPS:

FIRST TIME USE:
  • It is recommended to charge your Scanmarker Air for 2.5 – 3 hours before first-time use (when connecting via Bluetooth). 
Charging: 
  • Charge via computer using the USB cable provided or use a USB charger.
  • The green light on your scanner will blink slowly whilst battery is charging and will turn steady when it has reached a full charge.
  • When the battery is very low the green light will start blinking fast, indicating that recharge is required.
Battery Life: 
  • The battery last for approx. 5 hours of continuous scanning. 
  • If the scanner is on, but idle, it will last for much longer than that.
  • Tip: The scanner can also be used whilst charging.
SCANNING:
  • Place the clear tip of the scanner a little bit before the beginning of the line you wish to scan and end your scanning movement after the end of the line.
  • Make sure the text you would like to scan is in the center of the tips when you start scanning (Scanmarker will continue following the line that it originally detected.)
  • Scan in a fluid and quick motion.
  • Avoid applying excessive pressure whilst scanning.
  • Practise scanning in the ‘Test Device’ screen until you are happy with the results.

HOW DO I INSTALL THE SOFTWARE:
For Mac and Windows:
  • Download the software from the following website: https://scanmarker.com/software-download/
  • Run the downloaded setup file and follow installation instructions.
For Android and iOS: 
  • Search for ‘Scanmarker Air’ in the relevant Store.
  • Install app.
  • Open app and follow on-screen instructions.
HOW DO I ACTIVATE MY SCANNER PEN?
  • The computer software requires activation, though it does allow a 30-day trial.
  • You will find your activation code on the warranty card that was included in your package.
  • Advice: activate the Scanmarker Air as soon as possible after purchase, to prevent activation difficulties at a later stage.
To activate:
  • Either click ‘Activate now’ on the red strip at the bottom of the quick start options.
  • Or select the Settings icon > Settings… > Activation tab and fill in your activation code.
 Note:
  • Activation requires internet connection.
  • The software allows activation on up to six computers.
HOW DO I CONNECT WIRELESSLY TO MY COMPUTER?
Take note: THE DONGLE 
>> The dongle is necessary on Windows Operated systems, since the built-in Bluetooth isn’t supported.
>> Bluetooth compatible with all Mac (iOS) models from 2012 and beyond without the dongle being needed.
In order to connect to Bluetooth on a computer:
  • Open Scanmarker application.
    • Windows: Double-click on the Scanmarker shortcut icon which will have appeared on your desktop during installation.
  • Mac:Open Finder > Select Applications > Double-click on the Scanmarker app (drag icon to the Dock for easier future access).
  • Plug in Bluetooth dongle provided in the package. (Only needed for Windows)
  • Turn your scanner on by pressing the transparent tip against a surface for 3 seconds.
    • The blue light will turn steady when connection has been established.
 TURNING YOUR SCANNER ON AND OFF:
  • To turn on: Press against a surface for three seconds.
  • To turn off:  Tap the scanner’s tip three times (quickly and gently) against a surface.
  • After being inactive for 12 minutes, your scanner will auto-power off (when connected to your device. If it is not connected, it will turn off after 2 minutes).
CAN I USE A SCANMARKER IF I AM LEFT-HANDED?
  • Yes, Scanmarker works for both right and left handed users.
  • You would just need to set the correct scanning hand in the settings.
HOW LONG DOES THE SCANMARKER AIR BATTERY LAST FOR?
  • The battery last for approx. 5 hours of continuous scanning.

HOW DO I SCAN TO WORD OR OTHER  DOCUMENTS? 
  • In order to scan to your document, click the ‘document’ icon on the orange widget and place your cursor in the application you would like to scan to.
  • The selected scanning mode will appear in white.
Note:
  • When scanning to a document, the default setting is that it automatically adds a space after each scan and then continues the following scan on the same line.
  • If you would like the following scan to be placed on a new line, click the scanner down at the end of the scan.
  • You can change these default settings by clicking on the settings icon> Settings… > Scanning > Type-in to external program.
INCREASE SIZE OF TEXT ON HIGH RESOLUTION SCREEN ON WINDOWS 10:
  • Right-click on the Scanmarker shortcut icon on your desktop
  • Open Properties
  • Go to the ‘Compatibility’ tab
  • Under Settings, check ‘Override high DPI scaling behaviour’ and then choose ‘System’ from the menu below that.
That should increase the size for you.
CAN SCANMARKER SCANS TEXT FROM SCREENS?
  • Scanmarker Air can scan from Kindles and other e-reader screens; however, it doesn’t work to scan from regular computer or phone screens.
WHAT TYPE OF TEXT CAN BE SCANNED?
  • Scanmarker scans printed text (6 – 24pt) into any application on your computer- just as if you had manually typed it using your keyboard.
  • There should be a good contrast between the text and background colour.
  • White text against a black background can also be scanned.
  • Handwriting can be scanned as images and inserted alongside the text in your document, though it won’t be editable.
  • Numbers and symbols can be scanned. More complicated formulae can be scanned as images, though they won’t be editable.
I WOULD LIKE THE FOLLOWING SCAN TO APPEAR ON A NEW LINE. HOW DO I DO IT?
If you click the scanner at the end of scanning a line, the following scan will be inserted on a new line.

HOW DO I CONNECT TO MY SMARTPHONE OR TABLET? 
  • Install app from the relevant Store.
  • Open app.
  • Make sure your phone’s Bluetooth is turned on.
  • Turn your scanner on by pressing the transparent tip against a surface for 3 seconds.
  • Select ‘Start’ – It will start searching for your Scanmarker Air.
  • Tap on the name of your scanner when it appears under ‘Select Scanner’.
  • You should then receive a message that your scanner has successfully connected.
  • Note: First-time activation requires internet connection.
  • After the first-time connection, you will just need to open the app and turn on your scanner in order to connect
TROUBLE SHOOTING
  • Can’t connect scanner to the Android app?
If there are any problems with activating, the steps below should help:
  • Check that you are using a compatible device: Android 4.3 or higher with Bluetooth 4.0
  • If you are using a compatible device, please do the following:
  • Go to your phone settings (not in the app).
  • Go to ‘Apps’.
  • Find the Scanmarker app.
  • Click on ‘Force stop’ button.
  • Click on ‘Clean data’ button.
  • Open Scanmarker app.
  • Turn on your scanner by clicking the scanner against a flat surface for 3 seconds.
  • Select the ‘Start’ button.
  • Click on the scanner that appears on the screen.
You should now receive a message that your scanner has successfully connected.
THE BLUE LIGHT IS STEADY THOUGH THE SCANNER ISN’T CONNECTING TO MY DEVICE? 
  • Your scanner may be connecting to a different device of yours.
  • If that is the case – close the Scanmarker application on the other device and then try connecting again.
I’M TRYING TO SCAN TO MY ANDROID/IOS DEVICE AND THE SCANS AREN’T COMING THROUGH?
  • If your scans aren’t coming through or you keep receiving an ‘unsuccessful scan’ message, there is likely an issue with your Cloud connection.
  • Please select the ‘Settings’ icon and turn the Cloud option off.
WHY AREN’T MY SCANS COMING OUT ACCURATE?
If your scans aren’t coming through accurately –
  • Make sure that you are using all the correct settings including ‘Scan Type’, ‘Language’ and ‘right/left hand’
  • Practice scanning in the ‘Test Device’ screen.
